Amanda had been drawn to the idea of hands before in her art and I write a lot about hands in my poems. Eventually I picked out two poems to go on facing sides of the block.
Amanda then sent me the designs for the stone. I was immediately impressed by the image she had created for the first poem - incorporating the W from Bakewell with the idea of two hands in conflict. The second carving was a wonderfully sinuous design that complemented the ‘fighting’ hands image.
I looked forward to seeing the companion stone placed beside the guide stoop on the heathery moor - to continue and complete this notion of ‘two’ that extends through our project: two artists, two hands, two poems and designs, two stones. - Chris Jones
